How To - Install Smoke Alarms
Steps To Install A Smoke Alarm
- Identify the desired location of the smoke alarm. Remember to avoid areas where heat and steam are common (for example, stoves often produce a large amount of heat and detectors should not be placed right above one).
- Most smoke alarms will have a mounting base that separates from the alarm itself. This base should have holes that will allow for easy mounting to a wall or ceiling with a set of screws.
- Select a drill bit slightly smaller than the size of the supplied wall anchors to ensure a snug fit.
- Use the mounting base to mark the screw holes on the ceiling or wall.
- Drill holes into your wall or ceiling to install the mounting anchors.
- Take the plastic screw anchors and hammer them into the pre-drilled holes.
- Screw the supplied screws partially into the ceiling or wall and line up the mounting base with these screws.
- Once your mounting base is screwed in and secure on the ceiling or wall, place and twist the smoke detector into position within the mounting base.
